Learning to find the halves of shapes and objects

We have been doing lots of hands on experiences to help us learn how to find the halves of 2D shapes and the halves of a set of objects. To find the half of the shapes, we first traced different 2D shapes onto coloured paper. Then we cut them out and folded them in the middle. We had to make sure that both sides were the same. Then we cut the shape into two equal parts to show the two halves.

Then we worked on finding the halves of a set of objects. First we had to count and make a set. Next we divided them into two groups to find the half. We had to make sure that we were being fair by putting the same number of cubes in both the groups.

  1. I can see that Room 2 is developing fine motor skills in learning to find halves in shapes and objects. I can see half of a circle and half of a rectangle. What other shapes can you halve?
