Waikowhai Primary School was extremely fortunate to have award winning “Strike Percussion” come to perform for the whole school. It was a high energy show which drew on styles from around the world to introduce a broad range of modern percussion. Some of the students were chosen to play some of the instruments. We really enjoyed their music and we hope that they will come back again to perform for us.

Floating and Sinking Exploration
We went to the Maritime Museum to find out more about Floating and Sinking. We were lucky to go for a sail on the Ted Ashby. The sailors on the boat asked us to help them pull the ropes to make the sails go up. When we came back, Emma the teacher at the museum explained to us about why some things float and some sink.

Inquiry Investigation- Floating and Sinking
Over the past few weeks the Junior Syndicate has been on an Inquiry Investigation. Room 4 and Room 5 have been doing some experiments like scientist do. We wanted to find out what makes somethings float while others sink. Just like what real scientist do, we made some predictions first, then tested out our predictions and finally tested them out to observe if our predictions were right. Finally we got together to discuss our findings.
Stay tuned to find out what we are going to do next week. |

Support Staff Day
Today was a very special day. Waikowhai Primary School celebrated Support Staff Day to acknowledge all the wonderful things that our office staff, caretaker and teacher aides do for us. Room 5 is lucky to have Mrs Ward and Louise who help us in our class. They are amazing, very talented and really wonderful people. We are really thankful for all the wonderful support they give us in our daily learning.
Room 5 was chosen to do a special card for Mrs Ward. We decide to make a book for Mrs Ward because she loves to read. That is why she is an amazing storyteller. We wrote to tell Mrs Ward what we are thankful for and then we used some interesting adjectives to describe her. We also did some illustrations to go with our writing.

How to be Wastewise
Waikowhai Primary School was lucky to have Ron come in to show us how to we should dispose our rubbish appropriately. Room 4 and Room 5 were in the hall together and we gained lots of new information. It was very shocking to find out how much rubbish Aucklanders generate. Ron shared some slides with us.
Here we are all eager to be Waste Wise.
